18 Best Restaurants in Bishkek in 2026

Where to eat in Bishkek, from hand-pulled lagman and 600-som lunches to modern Kyrgyz cooking on the 17th floor.

Bishkek’s menus reach well beyond beshbarmak, the Central Asian dish of finely chopped boiled meat mixed with noodles. In a single evening you can choose between hand-pulled Uyghur lagman, Azerbaijani shashlik, a Georgian feast and Korean barbecue on the 15th floor.

This is the list we would hand a friend on their first night in town. You will find national restaurants built for big family dinners, a chaikhana that serves breakfast until noon and stays open until 06:00, and four restaurants high above the city where you can time dinner for sunset.

We have sorted them by what you are in the mood for. Prices are in Kyrgyz som and date from 2026, and most kitchens keep going until late. For coffee and cake, see our guide to the best cafes in Bishkek.

The best restaurants for Kyrgyz food

Start here for beshbarmak, plov and samsa. These six range from a national restaurant that opened behind Ala-Too Square in 2025 to a halal chaikhana that stays open until 06:00.

1Sonoon

Our pick for a first Kyrgyz meal

Sonoon opened in spring 2025 right behind Ala-Too Square, so it is an easy walk from most of the centre.

The menu covers the classics, from beshbarmak and the house plov to three kinds of samsa: alat, katmar and tamchy. The dishes are made for sharing around one big table, and the menu also has chicken tabaka and baked quail.

On a weekday, come for the business lunch: 650 som for a salad, soup, main and drink, from 12:00 to 16:00. There is a second Sonoon at the Tynchtyk resort in Sary-Oi, on Issyk-Kul.

3Shyrdak Chaikana

An ethno chaikhana with 600-som lunches

A shyrdak is the felt carpet you see in yurts, and this chaikhana is named after it. It opened in summer 2026, with two halls, private cabins and tapchans, the low wooden platforms you sit on to eat.

From Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 15:00, there are three set lunches of national dishes, each 600 som. At other times, try the guro lagman, made with tender meat, vegetables and the house noodles.

It is very family friendly, with a play area for children and a prayer room. It is a ride out from the centre, on Aaly Tokombaev in the south of the city.

4Faiza

Feeding Bishkek since 1998

Faiza opened in 1998 and now has two branches.

The menu is Central Asian, and the crowd is mixed: students, families, businesspeople and civil servants. It has a reputation as a place to eat well for not much money.

Faiza reopened in 2025 after a refit. It closes at 21:00, early by Bishkek standards, so think lunch rather than a late dinner. You can also order ahead on faiza.kg and pick it up.

The halal chaikhana that stays open until 06:00

Mubarak is a halal chaikhana chain with nine branches in Bishkek and Cholpon-Ata. It is run by the same team as Maarek, number 13 on this list.

The Gogol and Ankara branches open at 08:00 and close at 06:00 the next morning. Breakfast is served every day until noon, with syrniki at 350 som and oat pancakes with lightly salted trout.

The best Uyghur food and noodles

Lagman, the hand-pulled noodles of Central Asia, is at its best in Uyghur kitchens. Bring a group, because dishes like dapanji are made for sharing.

7Mahmud Kashgari

Our pick for Uyghur food

Mahmud Kashgari takes its name from the 11th-century scholar from Kashgar who wrote the first comprehensive dictionary of the Turkic languages. It has long been popular with people who know their Uyghur food, and the cooks are Uyghur too.

Everything is made by hand. The lagman is pulled in the kitchen, the manty are folded there, and you can watch it all happen through the open kitchen. Try the tkhumsay too, with jusai or with tomato.

A dapanji big enough for six or seven people costs around 2,100 som, and there are private cabins for up to 20. For one person, the 950-som business lunch gets you pachak, lamb legs in a spicy sauce, with rice, Tashkent tea and fresh flatbread.

It is halal, opens at 08:00, and has big tables for groups of 4 to 15 or more. You will find it on Kurmanzhan Datka, in the east of the city.

9Lanzhou

Noodles in a 33-spice broth

Lanzhou serves halal Chinese Muslim cooking, and the signature is a bowl of noodles in a broth made with 33 spices brought in from China. Finish your noodles before the broth and you can ask for another portion for free.

In summer 2026 the signature noodles were 230 som and salads 40 som, and the house tea is free.

Beyond the noodles, try the creamy lagman or the manty. The branch on the second floor of Bishkek Park mall is handy after shopping, and there is a second at Technopark.

Shashlik is a Bishkek staple. These three grill it well, with Azerbaijani, Uzbek and Georgian cooking on the side.

10Staryi Baku

Our pick for shashlik

Staryi Baku, or Old Baku, is an Azerbaijani grill house, and shashlik is what to order. The man at the grill is Intigam Aliyev, and the restaurant was named the best place for Azerbaijani food at the Horeca Awards 2025.

It is big and lively, with a summer terrace, halls on two floors and themed private booths, which makes it a favourite for family get-togethers. Locals rate it for good shashlik at low prices.

The best restaurants with a view

Bishkek sits right at the foot of the mountains. Go up to the 10th, 15th or 17th floor, or to the roof of the Sheraton, book a window table and time it for sunset.

13Maarek

Our pick for a view, and for modern Kyrgyz food

Maarek is on the 17th floor, with a panoramic view over the city. Chef Bekzhan Pulatov worked abroad for years before coming home, and his cooking is inspired by Kyrgyz traditions.

The menu reads like Kyrgyz food in a new outfit: kuurdak, bai kazan, roasted bone marrow with smoked horse meat, and a sharing platter of smoked chuchuk, house-smoked quail, olobo and beef pastrami. The menu is halal, and there is a prayer room.

The room is often full, so book ahead and ask for a window table.

Grill galbi and chadolbaegi, thin slices of beef brisket, or go for bibimbap, or miyeokguk, a seaweed soup, when it is cold out. You can choose your spice level, and there are vegetarian dishes.

The lunch sets, served from 12:00 to 15:00, are the best value. Booking ahead is a good idea.

16IWA

Far Eastern food on the Sheraton’s roof

IWA is the roof bar and restaurant of the Sheraton Bishkek, at the top of the hotel tower above the Bishkek Park mall. That makes it the highest table on this list.

The menu mixes Japanese and Korean ideas: shrimp tempura with lemon ranch, a tempura assortment with chili aioli, seared tuna with Maui salsa, and beef tartare with gochujang on crispy sushi rice.

The door runs face, dress and age control, so wear something smarter than hiking gear.

Furusato has served Japanese home cooking in Bishkek since 2013. The sauces are kept light, so the ingredients come through.
