Mostly Mountain is an independent travel guide to Kyrgyzstan, written by Jeff Stony. This page explains how the guides are made.

How places get into a guide

A place goes into a guide because we think it’s worth your time, and for no other reason. No business pays to be included or to be ranked higher, and we don’t accept free stays, meals or tours in exchange for coverage.

How we check the details

Opening hours, prices and addresses come from each place’s own website, menu or listing. Park fees, transport and rules come from official sources and the local press, such as 24.kg, Kaktus Media and AKIpress. Map pins come from OpenStreetMap. A detail we can’t confirm from a reliable source stays out of the guide.

Photos

Kyrgyzstan’s best places are mostly photographed by the people who live there and the travellers who pass through. Inside a guide, their photos are shown through Instagram’s official embed. The post stays on the creator’s account, with their name on it and a link back, and each guide credits its photos at the bottom.

The cover photos on guide and destination cards are different: we host those ourselves, so we use one only after its photographer has agreed in writing. Each cover is credited on the photo, and we crop and resize them to fit the cards.

If one of the posts is yours and you’d rather it wasn’t shown, get in touch and we’ll take it down.

Keeping guides current

Things change fast in Kyrgyzstan. Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and we recheck a guide when prices or rules change, or when a reader tells us something is out of date. Prices carry the month we checked them. When we aren’t sure of a detail, like a cafe’s exact opening hours, the guide says so. If we only know the rough location of a place, its map pin is marked “Area only”.

Corrections

Spotted a mistake? Email us with the guide’s link and what’s wrong. Factual errors get fixed, and the guide’s updated date changes with them.

How the site makes money

It doesn’t yet. There are no ads, affiliate links or sponsored posts on Mostly Mountain. If that changes, any link that earns us a commission will be labelled where it appears, this page will say so, and it won’t change what we recommend.
